Holistic Wellness — Four Modalities, One Practice
At Smooth Hands Wellness, we combine the healing power of hands-on bodywork with advanced therapeutic technologies. Whether you're seeking relief for your horse, yourself, or both, our integrated approach addresses the whole picture — not just the symptoms.
Equine Massage
Your horse communicates through movement — and when something isn't right, it shows. Muscle tension, shortened stride, resistance under saddle, behavioral changes, and slow recovery from hard work are all signs that your horse's body is asking for help. Equine sports massage is one of the most effective ways to answer that call.
At Smooth Hands Wellness, every equine session begins with a thorough evaluation. We observe your horse's posture, movement patterns, and areas of sensitivity before ever laying hands on them. This lets us build a session tailored to your horse's specific needs — whether that's releasing deep tension in the hindquarters after a demanding competition season, loosening a tight poll and neck from collection work, or helping an older horse maintain comfort and mobility.
Our hands-on techniques draw from sports massage, myofascial release, and trigger point therapy. We work methodically through the major muscle groups, feeling for areas of spasm, adhesion, and restricted fascia. Many horses visibly relax during sessions — licking, chewing, lowering their heads, and releasing tension they've been carrying for weeks or months.
Equine massage isn't a replacement for veterinary care — it's a powerful complement to it. We regularly work alongside veterinarians, farriers, and trainers to support a comprehensive wellness plan for your horse. Whether your horse is a weekend pleasure mount, a competitive athlete, or a retired companion who deserves to feel good, we're here to help.
This is a fully mobile service. We travel to your barn or stable throughout Loveland, Fort Collins, Berthoud, Longmont, Windsor, and the greater Northern Colorado area. Your horse stays comfortable in their own environment while receiving the care they need.
Human Massage
Riders put their bodies through more than most people realize. Hours in the saddle, the physical demands of barn work, the repetitive motions of grooming and mucking — it all adds up. But you don't have to be a rider to benefit from therapeutic massage. Anyone carrying tension, recovering from an injury, or simply seeking relief from the stresses of daily life deserves the healing power of skilled hands.
Our human massage sessions are therapeutic at their core. Whether you need deep tissue work to address chronic tension, sports massage to support an active lifestyle, or a restorative relaxation session to reset your nervous system, we tailor every treatment to what your body needs that day.
We listen to your concerns, assess areas of tension and restriction, and apply targeted techniques to release tight muscles, improve circulation, and restore range of motion. Many of our clients are horse owners who discovered us through our equine work — and found that the same skilled hands that help their horse feel better can do the same for them.

PEMF Therapy
Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses gentle electromagnetic pulses to stimulate your body's natural healing processes at the cellular level. If that sounds like science fiction, the results speak for themselves — PEMF has been used for decades in both human and veterinary medicine to reduce pain, decrease inflammation, and accelerate tissue repair.
Here's how it works in simple terms: every cell in your body (and your horse's body) has an electrical charge. When cells are damaged by injury, overuse, or chronic stress, that charge weakens and the cell can't function at its best. PEMF therapy delivers targeted electromagnetic pulses that help restore optimal cellular energy, essentially giving your cells the boost they need to heal more efficiently.
For horses, PEMF therapy is particularly effective for addressing soreness after hard work, supporting recovery from soft tissue injuries, reducing inflammation in joints and tendons, and improving overall circulation. For humans, the benefits are similar — pain relief, faster recovery, reduced swelling, and improved mobility.
PEMF is completely painless and non-invasive. Most horses stand quietly during treatment, and many humans find the gentle pulsing sensation deeply relaxing. It pairs beautifully with hands-on massage — we often recommend combining PEMF with a massage session for the most comprehensive results.
Red Light Therapy
Red light therapy — also known as photobiomodulation — uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to penetrate the skin and stimulate healing at the cellular level. It's one of the most well-researched non-invasive therapeutic modalities available, and it's effective for both horses and humans.
When red and near-infrared light reaches your cells, it boosts the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate) — the energy currency that powers cellular repair and regeneration. This means faster wound healing, reduced inflammation, decreased pain, and improved blood circulation in the treated area.
For horses, red light therapy is especially valuable for treating wounds, reducing swelling in tendons and joints, easing muscle soreness, and supporting overall recovery between competitions or training sessions. For humans, it's widely used for pain management, skin healing, reducing inflammation, and even improving sleep quality.
Red light therapy is painless, has no known side effects, and requires no downtime. It can be used as a standalone treatment or layered with massage and PEMF therapy for a comprehensive healing session. Many of our clients find that combining all three modalities delivers results greater than any single treatment alone.
Massage therapy and wellness services are not a substitute for veterinary or medical care. We recommend working closely with your veterinarian or healthcare provider.
